Let's forget about the state's economy for a moment...
The weather in Michigan is pure torture.
Nothing new, right? But there is no stretch of the year that illustrates this point more agonizingly, that makes one want to chase a box of thumbtacks with a stiff highball of washer fluid -- straight up -- than the first three months of the year. I mean, I woke up this morning (er, I mean, this afternoon; sorry, hon.) stunned to find that the spring-like thaw that had ushered in four days of warm, cozy temps (albeit somewhat soggy) had been raped, pillaged, and run out of town by a vile and malicious cold front, which not only made getting out of bed (much earlier than I was prepared to do) that much tougher a task, but completely put the kibosh on any designs I may have had on digging my Rollerblades out of the closet for a weekend skate!
"Look out the window. It's sunny every day here. It's like manifest destiny. Don't tell me we didn't make it. We made it! We are here. And everything that is past is prologue to this." -- Swingers

Product Launch
Well, this is it. Here we go. With this post, the Realm of Rant has officially commenced...
But, before I get started, I am going to attempt to roughly define my purpose, here, and delve, ever so slightly, into my background (for those of you who care). I will begin with the latter...
I've always had a rather active (some would say "wild") imagination, and a proclivity for story telling (some would say "stretching the truth," or flat out "lying"). I deny none of this, of course. I mean, where would we be without story tellers? We would never have shared in the great adventures of Huck Finn. We would never have known Atticus Finch, Holden Caulfield, or Captian Ahab. Nor would we have shared in the equally great and unfortunate misadventures of Bugs Bunny or Homer Simpson... However, while I certainly challenge the presumption that pushing the limits of reality -- or one's perception of reality -- is a bad thing, I am aware that my appetite for the absurd and the abstruse is not always a healthy one.
With this said, there is a time and a place for story telling. One of my enduring weaknesses -- as many people can attest -- is that I rarely possess the ability to distinguish the proper time to tell tales from the absolute improper time to do so. Again, I do not deny this. Nor will I aplologize for it. Though I am working at channeling certain aspects of my personality into more appropriate (read: constructive) areas of my life.
So, how does all of this fit into the blog's grand scheme, you ask? Excellent question. The Realm of Rant will be an outlet for my creative impulses, though the majority of what I post here will be based in fact, in reality. I may digress from time to time, but you can rely on what I write to be mostly inspired by actual people, places, times, and events. Those times that I am hypothesizing, or completely spinning a yarn, I promise to be forthright about it, and to properly clue you in.
My interests range from the mature (business, economics, history, politics) to the often-less than-mature (sports, film, music, and food). As such, I will blog about whatever strikes me as pertinent or necessary, as often as it does. It is a simple idea, I know. And it will evolve into whatever it does.
Stay tuned...
